Hiking
Hiking at Sunglow Ranch
Sunglow Ranch is a hiker’s paradise. Surrounded by the Sky Islands, we're just a short drive to the Chricahua National Monument, Dos Cabezas and the Dragoon Mountains. And we have plentiful opportunities for hikers right here on the ranch. Warm up on our own 3-mile, well-marked trail and encounter grasslands, juniper-oak forest (with some elm and sycamore thrown in), and even some riparian species. The trail is a loop with a more challenging spur up to Sunset Hill, where a nice view of the ranch property and the Dragoon, Dos Cabezas, Huachuca and Swisshelm mountains can be had.
One of our guests' favorite off-property hikes is in the Chiricahua National Monument. A shuttle departs daily form the Monument Visitor Center to Massai Point at the very top of Bonita Canyon, where access to a number of well-marked trails lead hikers back down through several different ecosystems.
Coronado National Forest
Directly abutting the ranch, the 200,000-acre Coronado National Forest reaches nearly to the top of the Chricahua Mountains. You can access the forest right from the ranch or take a short trip up Turkey Creek Road to the ranger station. From there numerous maintained trails offer day-trips to hikers of all abilities.
